Botanical Illustration & Watercolor Painting: Sunday 09/14, 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm with local artist Casi Fordham
People have been asking for a botanical illustration class with Casi, so here you go!
This is great class for anyone who wants more time and support with basic sketching that you can use as a springboard for your art-making. You do not need any experience with drawing for this class, just a desire to learn some foundational skills with observation and illustration- starting with botanicals, using early autumn blooms at your table for inspiration!
In this class local watercolor artist Casi Fordham will share tips, techniques and tools for botanical illustrations, with emphasis on loose sketching (aka: not exact representations, but showing a likeness to flowers). Following the sketching portion of the class, Casi will guide you with mixing and applying watercolors to your sketches.
You will learn various wet into wet watercolor techniques, dry-brushing & using dark & light values as you build layers of color and shape to create your blooms, adding details and embellishments afterward.
Allowing the pigment and water to interact as they expand across the page together is a great way to trust the creative process as it unfolds. Watercolors have a way of leading and surprising you if you allow them to!
You’ll be guided in exploring basic watercolor techniques, breaking down the elements of building values, while being guided by demos each step along the way. You will bring home your practice pieces as well as a larger piece you’ll work up to.
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU: a vase for your flower (s) that you will place in front of you for visual reference.
A light afternoon snack and a glass of wine will be served.
All materials provided. No experience needed.
Come play, learn & create!
